Ashtanga Hridayam - Part 23

Ayurvedic Insights into Skin, Liver & Neuromuscular Disorders: From Vitiligo to Facial Palsy

In this in-depth session of our Ashtanga Hridayam series, we explore Ayurveda's classical understanding of dermatological, hepatic, and neuro-muscular conditions.

Beginning with Nidanasthanam Chapter 13, we complete our study of liver disorders, swellings, and herpes — examining their causes, pathogenesis, and prognosis. We then move into Chapter 14, which offers a comprehensive look at skin diseases, vitiligo, and parasitic infections through the Ayurvedic lens. The session concludes with Chapter 15's classical teachings on neuro-muscular and degenerative disorders, including facial palsy, hemiplegia, frozen shoulder, sciatica, and plantar fasciitis.

Through these chapters of Nidanasthanam (13–15), students deepen their knowledge of pathogenesis, differential assessment, prognosis, and doshic perspectives across a wide range of complex conditions.
